Policy Package Library

The Policy Package Library is the central repository of Policy Packages available in the Axiomatics Services Manager.

A Policy Package can be created in the Policy Editor within the Axiomatics Services Manager or in the standalone Axiomatics Policy Administration Point (PAP) program. To deploy a Policy package created in the standalone PAP editor, you must first import it into the Policy Package Library.

All packages are listed and remain in the Policy Package Library. Once you deploy a package to an Authorization Service, a copy of it still remains in the library.

You may therefore be well advised to agree on a naming convention for policy packages to simplify the identification of work in progress and deployed policies respectively.

note

When you deploy a Policy Package to an Authorization Domain, you copy the package to the domain. If further edits are made to the version that remains in the Library, this does not impact the deployed policy.

Create a Policy Package

To create a Policy package in the Library:

  1. Click the Create button under the menu bar.

  2. The new package is added and automatically selected at the bottom of the list in the Policy Package Library.

  3. Click on the auto-generated name field and type the name you want.

Rename a Policy Package

To rename a Policy package in the Library:

  1. Select the package you want to delete by clicking on it in the Library list.

  2. Click on the name field to the left.

  3. In the text field, type the new name.

Create a copy of a Policy Package

To copy a Policy package in the Library:

  1. Click the Duplicate button in the Action column (to the right of the library listing).

  2. The copied version is automatically added to the Library package list and selected.

  3. The auto-assigned name is the original name plus the word "copy". If several duplicates are made of the same source package, they are numbered sequentially.

Import a Policy Package

You can import Policy Packages created using either of the following two sources:

  • The stand-alone Axiomatics Policy Administration Point (PAP).

  • Another instance of the Axiomatics Services Manager's built-in Policy Editor.

To import a Policy Package:

  1. Click the Create button under the menu bar.

  2. In the File Open dialog box , select the file you want to import.

  3. Confirm by clicking Open.

The package is included in the Policy Package Library and selected. The selected package is auto-assigned a temporary name that you then may change if desired.

note

When an imported policy package contains attributes that are not present in the Attribute Dictionary, those attributes are automatically imported into a namespace in the dictionary called "automatically_imported".

note

Policy packages created in the stand-alone Axiomatics Policy Administration Point (PAP) software may include XACML features that are not supported by the Policy Editor in the Axiomatics Services Manager interface. You can still import these packages in the Axiomatics Services Manager and deploy them to an Authorization Domain, but you cannot open them in the Policy Editor. Such packages are marked with an icon indicating they contain unsupported features.

Export a Policy Package

To export a Policy package from the Library:

  1. Select the package you want to export by clicking on it in the Library list.

  2. Click the Export button.

  3. The package is automatically downloaded to your default download directory and given the file name policy.zip.

Delete a Policy Package

To delete a Policy package from the Library:

  1. Click on the trash can icon in the Actions column to the right of the library listing.

  2. In the confirmation dialog click Yes to execute the deletion or No to cancel.
